Wedding Vows as Affirmation of Intent , or the Asking Wedding vows of affirmation is a vow in a question form to which the partners respond either with 'I do' or 'I will', depending how the question is formed. Affirmation of intent, or the asking, is not a requirement for a legal marriage. This is a wedding tradition which most couples include when compiling their wedding ceremony. Because it is optional, and anyone in the wedding can participate, in a wedding ceremony which includes the brothers and sisters of the bride and groom, the question can be asked by them rather than by the celebrant. Symbolically, the bride and groom are being asked their intentions by those people who have known them the longest, and should know them the best.
