Changing your name after Marriage

Traditionally a wife changes her name to that of her husband once she gets married. There is no legal requirement that she does that, nor does she register the new name if she does decide to take her husband's name.

However, if she takes her husband's name she will need to change her name on such things as her drivers licence and car registration, passport, bank accounts, superannuation, insurance policies, Medicare, private health funds, electoral enrolments, memberships, store accounts etc., When she contacts these various people she needs, for the purpose of identification, her Marriage Certificate, and a Birth Certificate.
